Startup Competition

The startup competition during the IoT Week 2019 focused on fulfilling three sustainable development goals:
Good Health & Well Being (SDG3)
Clean Water & Sanitation (SDG6)
Sustainable Cities & Communities (SDG11)
This year, the competition had eleven startups, striving for finding solutions to real problems. The prize money for the winners of each category was 5.000€ and the winner of the entire competition received another 5.000€.
On Tuesday, the competition started with the pitches from the startups Good Health & Well Being and Clean Water & Sanitation. The startups from Sustainable Cities & Communities presented their ideas on Wednesday, with very interesting results and approaches for current needs.
After eleven great pitches, the decision came out: Sani Nudge, Aqua Robur and Wastehero were the winners from Good Health, Clean Water and Sustainable Cities, respectively.
Sani Nudge is a startup which uses a wireless hygiene monitoring technology designed to help healthcare institutions improve hygiene compliance and processes. Sani Nudge has achieved some great results, improving hand hygiene by 200% and lowering the short term sick-leave by 45%.
Aqua Robur has developed a self-powered IoT device called Fenix Hub, which combines the state of art wireless IoT communication with the innovative power supply, replacing the need of changing batteries and digging for grid connections. It is designed for the water sector. With its built in – hydro based – energy harvester, which efficiently transforms a small part of the energy in the water pipeline into accessible electricity, it enables measurement where it’s most needed and not only where there is access to electricity.
Wastehero delivers unique technology and expertise, which immediately helps businesses in all sizes to start saving from day one. Wastehero has three different products -Sensor (measures waste levels through optical and ultrasonic sensing technologies), Platform (enables companies and cities to easily inspect and measure the collection of waste) and Navigation (user friendly route planning based on real time traffic data).
The winner for this competition was Wastehero, receiving a total prize of 10.000€ to help scaling the business and developing their products. Congratulations!
