Role as Local Host Committee Member: Managing Director
Alexander Berlin is an innovation and transformation evangelist for digital technologies in agrifood, smart cities and society. He leads and develops large scale EU innovation projects and builds a collaborative innovation infrastructure connecting the leading European digital innovation hubs.
As CEO and Founder of Berlin Thinking Consulting, he supports innovators to find public or private funding on the European level and aligns the work of various innovation actors and projects especially in the field of agrifood. Berlin Thinking provides also acceleration services for tech companies and organizations in all IoT and ICT sectors growing internationally and scouts startups for synergetic funds of business and super angels.
He was recently appointed as managing director of the IoT Week Berlin 2023 and coordinates the local host committee developing the 12th edition of the high-level conference on cutting-edge IoT technologies with over 1000 participants each year.
He cofounded in 2022 the AI-driven platform Agrifood Innovation Navigator, short AgENt, which maps over 10.000 European innovation actors such as companies, hubs, universities, public bodies or projects in agrifood and keeps their profile and connections up to date by AI algorithms.
He acts as alliance coordinator and mentor on EU funding for the Berlin-based open innovation platform Farm-Food-Climate and as an ambassador for the German Agrifood Society.
Alexander oversaw the business innovation support at the €35M large scale IoT project IoF2020 and helped 36 international use-cases to develop next generation data business models for the agricultural sector. He is an experienced EU project manager and worked already on the development of a competitive European entrepreneurial infrastructure at projects like FIWARE and @diversity. He is part of advisory groups on the EU level and translates the needs of the IoT ecosystem, startups and investors in Europe into economically reasonable actions.
With Berlin Thinking Social, Alexander is also actively supporting technological innovations for humanitarian aid organizations like UNHCR, WFP and UNOCHA. He organizes together with Techfugees, HackingAid (by HumanityX and PwC), FIWARE and other partners, hackathons for the development of concrete technical solutions to manage the refugee crisis or to coordinate humanitarian aid.
