Day 4 – The Great Finale: Adoption of an International Declaration on the Internet of Things for Sustainable Development.
The final day of the exciting IoT Week 2017 brought more quality content and was concluded by the Adoption of an International Declaration on the Internet of Things for Sustainable Development.
The participants of the IoT Week 2017 conference in Geneva have adopted by acclamation the International Declaration on the Internet of Things for Sustainable Development. It presents a vision and a strategy for leveraging the Internet of things to support the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals adopted by the UN and the international community. It intends to pave the way to a closer collaboration between the international community of experts and researchers in the Internet of Things and the UN systems in order to turn sustainable development into a reality. The Declaration will be followed up through the future editions of the IoT Week.

In addition, we had some lively discussions on most recent topics such as: IoT Market Perspectives,
IoT 4 Developing countries – Emerging IoT solutions in developing countries, IoT, Smart Living & Ageing Well, Industry 4.0 & Smart Factory & Delivery, IoT 4 Developing countries – IoT Inclusion & Cooperation with the South, IoT Experimental Infrastructure, International Cooperation, IoT Networks, Drones, Privacy & Ethics.
We also had a chance to hear a session on IoT Start-ups – Accelerating Innovation and Market penetration and attend a workshop on IoT Standards Convergence.
Much attention was paid to the Hackathon presentations and awards. After three days of hacking, young developers presented their realization in front of a jury that selected three best projects: IoT-based solutions that tackled one or several of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the UN. This years’ best Hackathon project idea is Be Right Beach, the idea on smart, sustainable tourism about detecting crowded beaches and providing environmental protection for those beaches! The team got 5000€ from our partners Siemens. The 2nd Hackathon award (2000 CHF from ABB) went to Free Ocean project: environmental idea dedicated to protecting the oceans from plastic pollution. The 3rd prize (1000€ from Hasler Foundation) went to project team behind the idea Thinkmilk that proposes improving cows’ health and tackles the problem of milk quality in Brazil.
The closing IoT Week 2017 day was an ideal opportunity for many projects to have their board meeting at the CICG conference center, including: ANASTACIA, IoF2020 PSG, CREATE-IoT Consortium,
ARMOUR H2020, F-Interorp Armour.
