Day 2 – High Level Visions on IoT

Keynotes, panel discussions, workshops, networking reception, exhibition

Following the opening conference day, the Day 2 of IoT Week 2017 started in a great atmosphere. The exhibition area offered a lot of interesting booths presenting different IoT projects.
New interesting topics made the conference rooms packed – LPSs, Networks, Data, Nanotech, Cybersecurity, GDPR, Risk Management, Industry 4.0, Fast Innovation, User-centric, Privacy, to name just a few.

IoT Week & GIoTS – Day 2 – 07.06.2017.


The start of the Day 2 brought high-profile keynote speakers from government, research, institutions, academia and industry who presented their visions on IoT.

The event hosts Sébastien Ziegler, President of IoT Forum & Director of Mandat International and Nabil Abdennadher, Professor at HES-SO (University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland) introduced Mr. Chaesub Lee, ITU’s Telecommunication Standardization Bureau Director who gave a welcome speech to the audience.

We had a pleasure of listening to the keynote speeches of high government officials Mr. Mauro Dell’Ambrogio, State Secretary for Education and Research at Federal Department of Home Affairs – SERI who spoke about the role of governments in developing IoT, as well as Benoît Revaz, director at Swiss Federal Office for Energy, who presented a very interesting renewable energy strategy approved in Switzerland.
Once again, we enjoyed an inspiring speech of one of the “Fathers of the Internet” – Bob Kahn.
View from the industry perspective was presented by Dr. Ralf Michael Wagner, COO, Data Services at Siemens. This was followed by a vivid panel discussion, with all the keynote speakers including Nasser Saleh Al Marzouqi, Chairman of ITU-T Study Group 20 Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities and Communities (SC&C).

GIoTS session on Enabling New Generation IPv6 pointed out that the rollout of IPv6 is a key step forward in countering the rapid growth in the IoT space. GIoTS also presented a papers session on IoT Enabling Technologies and a workshop about Internet of Energy Neutral Things – IoENT 2017.

A lot of high quality workshops were held on trusted IoT, privacy, security and legal frameworks, Big Data, CPS, IoT in Medical Science and Healthcare, IoT Data Analytics, Internet of Things for Urban Innovation (INUIT), Combining IoT and Intelligent Robotics, challenges and opportunities.

The afternoon panel discussion tackled important issues such as IoT Trends in Smart Cities, SDG: IoT to overcome Hunger and Poverty, Smart Agriculture, The Future of Nanotechnologies for IoT & Smart Wearables, IoT and Big Data, IoT for Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16), Smart Transportation, IoT for Good Health and Well Being (SDG 3)

The networking opportunities during the second day were excellent. In addition to the coffee breaks sponsored by SIG and a networking lunch, the main networking event of the second day was the Welcome Reception with several interesting announcements.

HE Houlin Zhao, ITU Secretary General gave the opening speech for the Welcome Reception, pointing out the importance of IoT for the International Telecommunication Union.

Nicolas Walder, the Mayor of Carouge and Martin Brynskov, OASC chair announced a 6th Wave of new members working together with over 100 other cities worldwide to establish a global smart city market based on city needs.

Dimitri Konstantas, full professor at the Geneva School of Economics and Management of the University of Geneva announced cooperation between this University and the IoT Forum.
