Two years after the adoption of the International Declaration on the Internet of Things for Sustainable Development at the IoT Week 2017 in Geneva, the IoT Week2019 will bring various stakeholders, the IoT research and industry community, together with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and other stakeholders to demonstrate how IoT can contribute to implement the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by showing concrete initiatives and projects based in IoT technologies. The Internet of Things (IoT) is emerging as a powerful enabler in many application domains, such as water and energy management, environmental monitoring, health, smart cities, smart industry and supply chain management. The IoT has the potential to address some of the most acute human, economic and environmental needs. It can also directly contribute to achieving the targets in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Accordingly, the emerging IoT paradigm has the potential to create an efficient, effective and secure ecosystem taking advantage of connected devices for managing the major global challenges faced by this, and future generations. We will take the opportunity in Aarhus to present and showcase projects leveraging IoT technologies for sustainable development and for building a brighter future for our planet and its inhabitants.
