Advanced Algorithms Deliver Time Sensitive Network (TSN) Implementation for Industrial Applications

At the IoT Week 2022 conference, Huawei officially released the Edge Computing OPC UAi over TSN Smart Manufacturing Testbed 5.0. Konstantinos Alexandris, Huawei industrial network expert, gave a speech and introduced the progress of Huawei TSN testbed and related technologies. He invited industry customers and partners to participate in the testbed for Plugfest and joint innovation to promote the application of TSN technology in the industrial field.
The Edge Computing OPC UA over TSN Smart Manufacturing testbed includes typical industrial applications such as automation control, AI automated optical inspection, video surveillance, and data acquisition. The testbed is a miniature vehicle assembly production line, including handling, assembly, painting, etc.
Konstantinos Alexandris, Huawei’s industrial network expert, delivered a speech introducing the Huawei TSN testbed and related technical progress
The highlight of the testbed is that all applications are carried on a unified TSN network, and the new IEC 61499 control software enables the industrial application decoupled from the network configuration. The plug-and-play of devices in the network is realized by network calculus traffic modeling technology. The success of this testbed once again proves that the TSN technology is an inevitable choice to break the traditional pyramid structure of OT industry and move towards the IT/OT convergence of Industry 4.0 architecture. This testbed applies the key technology of “Huawei TSN+ network calculus” for the first time, providing a solid foundation for commercial application of the TSN technology.
The Edge Computing OPC UA over TSN Smart Manufacturing testbed jointly led by Huawei and the Edge Computing Consortium (ECC) was announced at the Hannover MESSE 2018 by the Edge Computing Consortium, Alliance of Industrial Internet, AVNU, Fraunhofer FOKUS, Huawei, Schneider, HollySys, NI, B&R, TTTech, and Spirent. Currently, over 40 industry partners have participated in the testbed. This testbed recently is registered as an AIOTI testbed. In particular, AIOTI holds an IoT Week 2022 conference session on a presentation of testbeds – controlled experimentation facilities. The AIOTI testbeds session provides real-world demonstrations, followed by a panel involving AIOTI experts and European experts that discuss challenges concerning Next Generation IoT Testbeds implementation and usage.
By presenting the Edge Computing OPC UA over TSN Smart Manufacturing Testbed 5.0 testbed at IoT week 2022, an invaluable opportunity for regulators and other non-institutional stakeholders is offered in order to evaluate the status of the technological advancement, which can contribute to (1) EU funded programmes, (2) Sustainable Development Goals projects set by the United Nations and (3) participation of SMEs in edge computing research activities, since SMEs are being the backbone of European economy;
In the future, Huawei will continue to cooperate with industry partners to build unified TSN software and hardware technology standards and applications to improve the TSN technology supply, and accelerate the commercial application of TSN technology.
Welcome to all the partners who are interested in participating in the testbed to contact us to promote the demonstration application and implementation of TSN technology! Contact: Lingbo Kong konglingbo@huawei.com
