Day 3 – IoT Perspectives
Morning keynote session brought us a hot topic: Telco Industry Perspectives on Future IoT. It was moderated by Srdjan Krco, CEO of DunavNET, who made it a lively discussion. Two telecom representatives offered their views on Telco and IoT. Vlad Trifa from Swisscom talked about how digitalisation changes every industry and that it will especially determine how businesses of tomorrow will run. Martin Bürki from Ericsson Switzerland came up with the data that 1.9 trillion dollars is predicted value-add of IoT across sectors in 2020.
Within the afternoon session on Ubiquitous IoT Perspectives, moderated by Sébastien Ziegler,
President, IoT Forum & Director, Mandat International we heard keynote speeches of Domenico Arpaia
CEO of OrbiWise SA and Andrea Onetti, Vice President & General Manager MEMS Sensor Division at STMicroelectronics.

Workshops and panel discussions
One of the most vibrant discussions was held on IoT Security & Privacy. It was followed by two interesting sessions within the same topic, titled Emerging Threats and Paradigm Shift and GDPR & IoT.
As it was the case with the previous two conference days, Day 3 was abundant with workshops on specific topics: IoT European Large-Scale Pilots Programme Session; An inside look at IoT Enablers by Swisscom; IoT Workshop on Energy and Home Comfort; Security Trends on IoT and Constrained Devices; Brazilian Initiatives in IoT – Planning, Research, Innovation and Deployments; End-user Engagement: Multi-stakeholder Co-creation for IoT Contexts; Innovative IoT Platform Technologies (EPI Workshop); FIESTA-IoT – Experimentation as a Service over Interoperable IoT Testbeds.
More interesting discussions were introduced at panels on Web of Things, IoT Standards Ecosystem – What’s new? Game Changer IoT Innovations, Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC), IoT Risk Management, IoT & the Fourth Industrial Revolution, M2M Interoperability as well as several panels with focus on SDG: IoT for Inclusiveness and Reduce Inequalities (SDGs 4, 5, 8, 10), IoT for Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), IoT for Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure (SDG 9).
The GIoTS workshops and paper sessions for this day included 3rd Workshop on Internet of Things for Active and Assisted Living (IoTAAL), Workshop on Energy Efficient Solutions based on IoT – EESIoT 2017, as well as papers sessions on IoT Enabling Technologies and IoT Security and Privacy.
The main networking event of the Day 3 was the Official IoT Week & GIOTS 2017 Gala Dinner with a welcoming speech of Luciana Vaccaro, Rector of HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland. The banquet took place on board of the boat “Lausanne”. The guests had the opportunity to discover the Lake Léman (Geneva Lake) and the splendour of the Alps mountains.
The participants also had an opportunity to visit the building of one of the IoT Week’s partners – International Telecommunication Union.
